Clipping Tickets

Clipping Tickets

Clipping Tickets

Prices for lift tickets are crazy here in Colorado, every year they go higher and higher.   If you where to buy a pass for the winter, it would cost you about $1,800 or more.  That leaves all of us getting low paying jobs that have nothing to do with what we are here for, snowboarding.  The  jobs sometimes offer a free ski pass or a merchant pass, that’s where you pay half of the current price, that would be around $850.-

Why does it have to be so hard, I just wanna ride, my ski bum soul needs freedom and lots of riding days.

I have  a friend that for a few winters refused to buy a pass or work for the winter, leaving no other means but to CLIP A TICKET. He got over 100 days each year.

What is clipping a ticket?  Well most resorts before 12 Pm will give you your money back if you don’t like the snow conditions. After 12 Pm if you decide to leave the mountain you are a candidate for ticket clipping.

A simple question,” Are you done for the day”.

Tourist Answer: “Yes”

Another simple question, “May I have your ticket?”

Then most people will say yes and there you go you have a clipped ticket and a way up on the chair lift.

Sometimes people will get offended and say things like,” why don’t you get a job, you lazy ski bum, I work etc.   Those are the chances you take. I guess there is an art in being able to read the person before you ask.

This is illegal and could land you in jail, so I don’t recommend it.  There is an entire underground crew that clips them and resells them  for $30 leaving the hill with a couple of Benjamin's for the day.

There are different kind of riders, the ones that love the sport and want to share and the ones that are only riders for social status.   If I bought a ticket I would have no problem giving it to someone.  After all I would have had my fun and would want to share with someone, weather that person be a bum or not.  Help your fellow snowboarder make some turns if you are done for the day.   Just be careful!

Another way to save some cash is called SHUTTLING-

That’s when you buy one ticket go up with a friend with a pass and you send him down with the ticket to pick up a friend waiting at the bottom.  This only works at big resorts where once they check your ticket you don’t have to come back down.

You can always bribe lifties with a 6 pack or something else, may be a candy bar or a hot chocolate.

Or you can save your money, get a job like the rest of us and buy your ticket
