How to Ride Trees
on a Snowboard 

Learning how to ride trees on a snowboard is actually not that hard. Snowboarding through trees is a very special thing. You often find the best snow in the trees because not everyone goes there. It can be days after a big dump and in the trees you will still find untouched powder stashes.

Snowboarding through trees is kind of like the true essence of snowboarding. You are completely surround by nature and no else is near you. It is a great feeling. Here are some tips on how to ride trees.

Snowboarding techniques for tree riding:

  1. If you can do the falling leaf on a regular run than you can ride trees. The falling leaf is riding on your heel edge the whole time, you go back and forth like the motion of a falling leaf. If all else fails in the trees you can always do the leaf until you get out. So that being said don't stop yourself from snowboarding trees just because you think your not ready. With that attitude you will never be ready. Go for it.

  2. Try and go with someone else who is already good at riding trees for your first time. If you don't have someone to go with try and follow a path through the trees that someone else made. This way you can focus more on the path and not navigating around trees as much. Check you resort map first to make sure there is a lift near the bottom of the trees you will be going through.

  3. The best snowboard tip to riding trees is being able to trust your skills enough to not have to look down at all. You have to be able to look ahead and see your line. At first this will be hard because all you will notice is the trees, but with practice they will become almost invisible. This is why for a beginner it is best to follow someone or someones tracks.

  4. Take your time and don't rush anything. It helps to keep taking the same tree run over and over until you feel comfortable snowboarding through trees.

  5. Your snowboarding stance should be the same. Just keep your knees bent and ready to make turns. Keep your head up and looking ahead. Make sure to wear a helmet and goggles through the trees because branches might be hitting you. Keep your ears open for other riders in the trees. This is a bad place to get into an accident.
