Snowboard Chile!
POR LA RAZON O LA FUERZA!! (Spanish: "By right or might")
Chile the land of a thousand wonders, this place must be one of the coolest places on earth. Chile has it all, some of the best snowboarding mountains in the world, backcountry in your backyard. It is the longest North to South country in the world, 2,880 miles long. The Andes on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. At its widest point the country is 265 miles across.
The northern part has the Atacama dessert and the southern part has forests, lakes and volcanoes. They have control over Easter Island, Sala and Gomez Island, Robinson Crusoe Island and the Juan Fernandez Archipelago. Places that are a must see in a lifetime, oh yeah and they own 482,628 sq. miles of Antarctica. This claim is suspended under the terms of the Antarctic Treaty. You can visit the end of the world if you want to. I guess enough of the nerdy talk and let me tell you about the Chilean Andes.
The Andes are the highest mountain range outside of Asia. There are a bunch of ski resorts close to Santiago, the capital. Chile has about 15 well known resorts and I'm sure a ton of secret spots. Spending more than a few weeks there and getting to know the locals it is a plus. The snow is best in July and August, sometimes their seasons are a lot longer due to huge amounts of snow. When it dumps, 5 feet to 9 feet are nothing.
You can take a snowmobile tour and depending on you level of riding they will find a place for you. You don't have to be a pro to go to Chile. Its a beautiful place with great snow. The food is cheap, the people are cool and the parties don't start till 12am. Overall it is one of my favorite places in the world. There is something for everyone.
When it's summer in the USA, it is winter in Chile...
