Snowboarding Techniques Butters

Snowboarding Butters

If you are looking to bolster your snowboarding techniques adding butters to your bag of snowboard tricks is a good idea. They can be incorporated into most aspects of riding. Flat land, before & after hitting rails or jumps, jibs...etc. Butters are fun and easy to do.

Here are the snowboarding techniques butter tips:

  1. A butter trick is done on either the tail or nose of a snowboard. By leaning on either end of your board you "store up" pressure on that end. The "stored up" pressure is used to pop you into the air.
  2. Once in the air you are only limited by your creativity. You can perform a rotation, like a 360 or 180 or a 900.
  3. Once you land you can go into another butter trick. Spinning on either end of your snowboard or just holding a manual position is also used as a butter trick. A manual is when you are only riding on either your nose or tail. If your doing a nose manual your nose is touching the snow, while the end of your snowboard is in the air(look at the picture to the right for an idea) Try and see how long you can manual.
  1. Learning this snowboarding technique is pretty easy. Just start by practicing your manuals. Once you get comfortable with riding on one end of your snowboard while the other is in the air you can start trying to get some air by using that "stored up" energy to pop in the air. Then you can try spinning once your in the air. Your ultimate goal for this snowboard trick should be to go from one butter trick right into another. Linking all your butter tricks together is a lot of fun and you can spend a lot of time just butterin' up your whole mountain.
