Snowboarding Better...
How To

Pay attention to these tips as they will make your snowboarding better

Why is it that one day we can rip it on the mountain and the next day can't even do a simple trick? What causes inconsistency? Here is the secret to snowboarding better.

If you were to ask a professional snowboarder how their so good, they would tell you that riding at a high level is all about being in the zone. Before snowboarding icon, Terje Haakonsen, drops in to hit a quarter pipe he gets into the zone buy clearing his mind and focusing on having the right speed & making sure there is a smooth take off spot.

Enough about being in the zone for now because we need a reality check. Most likely you are not a professional snowboarder. Snowboarding is probably one of many hobbies that you have. If you are not spending all day everyday riding than you probably aren't going to be the best snowboarder. But you could become the best rider at your local mountain. Your skills will only reflect the amount of time you have put into snowboarding.

5 Steps to Snowboarding Better

Snowboarding Better Step One... Get A Coach

Having a coach will help you develop your skills to their fullest potential and then some. With a coach you will learn snowboarding basics, for example, how to snowboard, how to use your body... etc. Coaches are good because they can cut the time it takes to learn snowboarding in half. Having a coach also reduces snowboarding injuries due to improper form.
Snowboarding Better Step Two... Practice Makes Perfect
Practicing is the only way to get good. Practicing your snowboarding techniques will develop your skills as a rider and will help condition your body so you can snowboard comfortably.
Snowboarding Better Step Three... Set A Goal
Humans are goal orientated. We like the feeling of achieving our goals. That means are goals must be obtainable. If you want to do a 1080 over the big kicker in the park you should try doing a 180 or 360 first over a smaller jump. Working your way up will help build your confidence and save you from a serious injury. Your snowboarding will be better when you have a goal to focus on.
Snowboarding Better Step Four... Get Feedback
Every rider needs feedback. You can get feedback from a coach, you can also get feedback from other riders who are a little bit better than you. Feedback from those riders is very helpful and valuable because they just went through what your going through and their advice can create shortcuts to getting better.
Snowboarding Better Step Five... Learn The Mental Game
Focusing on what you can do rather than what you can't do is key to snowboarding better. Try and focus on the incremental improvements. Snowboarding improvements are done one step at a time. When you keep practicing and staying focused on your goals, little by little your mind and body take you to your ultimate snowboarding goals. Remember when trying to obtain your goals, don't compare yourself to your snowboarding idol. This will only hold you back. They have practiced much more than you at this point. So focus on how much improvements you have made with the amount of practicing you have put in.

Two Mental Factors

Snowboarding better requires relaxation and concentration or focus. Take for example a snowboarding competition. The competitor in front of you does some amazing trick down the kink rail. You say to yourself "holy crap, he killed it" & start to tense up. Then it's your turn and you wipe out. so what happened? You made the biggest two mental errors. You tightened up instead of relaxing and you focused on what the other rider did instead of your own game.

How do you stop these mental errors from happening? How can you stay physically relaxed and stay mentally focused? Do what the professionals do, program yourself for success.

Once you know how to snowboard, all the movements are done at a sub-conscious level. This "automatic" riding should be your ultimate goal in snowboarding. Your body needs to know how to react to every aspect of your riding. This way you can stay relaxed. This is why practicing is so important because it makes your body movements automatic.

    Note:
Make sure to practice with good form other wise you will develop your "automatic" riding with bad form, which is why a coach is important.

Hypnosis can help improve your "automatic" snowboarding. To do this you need to get relaxed and visualize when you were riding at your best, when you felt in the zone. Try using your senses and describe how your mind feels, what you hear & see, and how your body feels. You need to make a verbal & physical trigger which will allow you to revert back to this high-performance state of mind when ever you want.

I like to touch my thumb and forefinger together to make an "o" and say "yes." Repeat this process several times. Now you will have programed your brain to recall theses higher levels of performance whenever you focus on it and make your physical and verbal trigger.

There are many people who have trouble with visualization. If you are one of them you should visit a hypnotist. They will help yo develop better triggers. A professional hypnotist can help you learn how to use visualization in order to make your snowboarding better.

To summarize, get a coach, practice, set a goal, get feedback and learn the mental game. These are 5 easy steps towards being a better snowboarder. And remember if you need help with the mental game seek help from a professional hypnotist.
