Snowboard Lesson #2

Snowboard Lesson #2

Now that you have practiced on your J-Turns and have started to link some turns we are going to take your snowboarding up the mountain.

Riding the chair lift can be intimidating at first, too many people near you, your confidence may be low, basically you don’t want to fall.

You are going to strap your front foot only, place your back foot behind your heel edge and are going to start skating towards the line, you have practiced this before on lesson # 1.

Follow directions and skate to the line, be calm, if you start going at the right time, you will make it before the chair hits you in the back of the leg.

You are on the chair lift, place your snowboard on the top of your unstrapped foot, or if you bring the bar down place it on the foot bar.

When you get off the chair lift make sure to place your wait on your front leg first, place back foot on top of  stump pad, or next to back binding, stay balanced and look ahead,  getting off the chair is just like the turns  you practiced on lesson 1 with your back foot unstrapped.

Now you have it, everybody falls at the chair lift their first time, if you fall near the chair, stay down till chair passes you by, try not to get hit by it... it hurts.

You are on top of the mountain, only one way down.

Lets practice on making toe edge turns and stopping, continue to link toe edge turns.  Practice on switching direction only by turning with your toe edge.  For this you will  have to almost bend your knee a little bit more to keep your speed, I imagine you are on a semi flat ground and not a black!!

Make it to the lift and do it all over again, this time, practice on making heel edge turns and stopping.

Make it to the bottom take the chair lift and practice on going from toe edge to heel edge.  Link your basic turns.

Practice on building confidence, you are snowboarding!!!! That’s awesome.

Try to go up for at least three days in a row and keep practicing your turns.  You should be feeling confident now.

Try to jump something really small, something a foot high, or just try to jump while riding flat.
